f .  C a l i b r a t e .  T o determine and cause corrections to be made or to be adjusted

C o n s i s t s of comparisons of two instruments, one of which is a
certified standard of known accuracy, to detect and adjust any discrepancy in the
accuracy of the instrument being compared.

i. R e p a i r . T h e  a p p l i c a t i o n  o f  m a i n t e n a n c e  s e r v i c e s1 , i n c l u d i n g f a u l t
l o c a t i o n / t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g 2 , r e m o v a l / i n s t a l l a t i o n , a n d d i s a s s e m b l y / a s s e m b l y3 ,
p r o c e d u r e s , a n d maintenance actions  4, t o i d e n t i f y t r o u b l e s a n d r e s t o r e s e r v i c e -
ability to an item by correcting specific damage, fault, malfunction or failure in
a part, subassembly, module (component or assembly), end item, or system.
j .  Overhaul.
That maintenance effort (service/action) prescribed to restore
an item to a completely serviceable/operational condition as required by mainte-
nance standards in appropriate technical publications (i.e., DMWR). Overhaul is
n o r m a l l y the highest degree of maintenance performed by the Army. Overhaul does
not normally return an item to like new condition.
k .  R e b u i l d .  Consists of those services/actions necessary for the restoration
of unserviceable equipment to a like new condition in accordance with original
m a n u f a c t u r i n g  s t a n d a r d s .  R e b u i l d is the highest degree of material maintenance
a p p l i e d to Army equipment.  T h e r e b u i l d o p e r a t i o n i n c l u d e s t h e a c t o f r e t u r n i n g t o
zero those age measurements (hours/miles, etc) considered in classifying Army
equipments/components.

Fault locate/troubleshoot -
The process of investigating and detecting the cause
of equipment malfunctioning; the act of isolating a fault within a system or unit
under test (UUT).

Disassemble/assemble - encompasses the step-by-step taking apart (or breakdown)
o f a spare/functional group coded item to the level of its least componency iden
t i f i e d  a s  m a i n t e n a n c e  s i g n i f i c a n t  ( i . e . , a s s i g n e d an SMR code) for the category
of maintenance under consideration.

Actions - welding, grinding, riveting, straightening, facing, remachinery, and/or
resurfacing.
